Police drags 7 persons to court for stealing goat owned by Osun government

Seven persons were on Wednesday arraigned before a Magistrates’ Court in Osogbo, the Osun State capital for allegedly stealing a goat belonging to the Osun State government.

The accused persons, one woman and six men were arraigned before Magistrate Habibat Bashiru on two counts charge of conspiracy and stealing.

They include Muhammed Moruf, Ayeni Abiodun, Agboola Fatai, Fayinka Gbenga, Olowoniyi Jeromu, Olorunfunmi Adeyemi and Babatunde Michael.

The prosecutor told the court that the suspects stole a goat belonging to the state government at the government’s livestock garden, GRA Osogbo on May 14, 2013 and thereby committed an offence punishable under section 516 and 390(9) of the Criminal Code Cap, 34 Vol. 11, laws of Osun State of Nigeria, 2003.

All the accused persons pleaded not guilty to the allegations levelled against them.
Counsel to the defendants, Mr Nnnena Ngwu, applied for their bail, arguing that the suspects should be presumed innocent until the contrary is established.
He assured that the suspects would not jump bail if granted, adding that he would produce them whenever their attention is needed by the court.
Magistrate Basiru, consequently granted the suspects bail in the sum of N50,000 each with a surety and thereafter adjourned the case till June 5, 2013 for hearing.

This is a good step towards gender parity in public spaces.

This decision means that breast exposure is not considered public lewdness, indecent exposure, or disorderly conduct. It also notes that, should a crowd form around a topless woman, the officer should instruct the crowd to disperse and then respond appropriately if it does not. Relative coverage is no longer a factor.

This policy shift comes after several years of litigation and protest. In the 1992 case People v. Ramona Santorelli and Mary Lou Schloss, the New York Court of Appeals ruled in favor of two women who were arrested with five others for exposing their breasts in a Rochester park, holding the law void as discriminatory. The ruling was put to the test in 2005, when Jill Coccaro bared her breasts on Delancey Street in New York, citing the 1992 decision, and was detained for twelve hours. She subsequently successfully sued the city for $29,000.

In 2007, Go Topless, a national organization supporting gender equality in shirtlessness laws, established Go Topless Day. Dozens of women protest – often topless – in thirty cities around the United States, promoting equal rights to be shirtless. Protests usually include chants of "Free your breasts. Man Rapes 60-year-old prostitute

A KEZI man has appeared in court charged with allegedly raping a 60-year-old prostitute.

Bernard Moyo, 36, denied the charges when he appeared before Gwanda magistrate Joseph Mabeza on Wednesday and was remanded in custody to June 5.

Prosecutor Johannes Tlou said the attack occurred February 2 this year following a birthday party attended by both Moyo and the woman at Antelope Old Hospital compound near Maphisa Growth Point.

The court heard that as the woman left the party to go home at Zhala Mine compound with a client, one Khaliphani Dube, Moyo followed them. He is alleged to have started hurling stones at the pair who then fled in different directions.

Tlou said Moyo charged after the woman and grabbed her by the neck. The woman screamed for help and Dube returned to try and help but was threatened by Moyo who then asked the pair to get intimate. Dube is said to have refused and walked away.

The court heard that Moyo then raped the woman, threatening her with an Okapi knife as she screamed for help again.

Dube later returned to the scene and accompanied the woman home. He later helped her report the attack to the police leading to Moyo's arrest.

Why I Sold My Kidney – Unemployed Graduate

Since the decline in Internet related frauds, especially the infamous ‘Yahoo Yahoo’, unemployed, frustrated and ‘ambitious’ Nigerian youths, especially those with the get-rich-quick mindset have moved on to a more deadly but lucrative money spinning venture-sale of kidneys.
With the worsening economic and resultant unemployment situation in the country, the business, though old, has remained a growing fad.
On Thursday, April 18, 2013, Kingsley Odoh, a Chemical Engineering graduate of Institute of Management and Technology (IMT), Enugu, flew into Nigeria, from Malaysia. Immediately after his ‘glorious’ arrival in Akanu Ibiam International Airport, Enugu, the atmosphere seemed transformed. Apart from his appearances oozing riches, his bravado also signaled that ‘levels have changed,’ as he treated longtime friends to sumptuous meals and expensive wines in one of Enugu costliest hotels, Protea Hotel.
As if that shindig was not enough, for many weeks, probably till today, Odoh’s residence located at Independence Layout, Enugu, has suddenly turned to a haven of merriments, as friends, both old and new regularly visit to wine and dine with him.
Apart from relocating from his one room apartment to a four bed room flat, Odoh also grooves around the Coal City in his newly acquired Sports Utility Vehicle, and expectedly, in company of his choice girls who are mostly students of IMT and ESUT.
While few of his pious acquaintances have questioned his instantaneous grass to grace status, describing him as internet scammer, a handful of others knew how he made his money-not from internet fraud, but sale of his own kidney!

“If you are interested I will connect you to the agents. The truth is that there is nothing wrong in what I did. If people can donate their kidneys to save lives, why can’t another person sell his to also save a life and at the same time make money to help alleviate his poor condition. That was what I did and I have no regret for the act,” he revealed to Sunday Express.
Odoh further threw the bombshell: “As I’m speaking with you, there are lots of Nigerians on the queue in Malaysia who have made all the arrangements to sell their kidneys.
Some of them desperately need money to establish something that would turn their lives around. I wouldn’t tell you that some are not donating for free. But the truth is that, even those who have chosen to donate for free are still being financially compensated. So what is the difference? He rhetorically asked.
On why he chose to trade one of his kidneys for money, the Abia State-born graduate avowed thus: “What I did is what anybody could easily do. I just needed the money so I went for it. Besides, I don’t see anything wrong in it, especially when it’s obvious that all what one needs to live a normal life is one kidney. If you are interested, I will link you up,” he disclosed.
While Odoh, according to insiders, have already squandered part of the eight million naira (N8m) he was allegedly paid in exchange for his kidney, he is currently considering setting up a boutique in the heart of the city. “He has already paid for a shop along Ogui road. From his comments, I believe it is going to be a boutique or super market.
He just needs something that would keep him out of the reach of poverty, which is the major reason he took the risk,” one of his close friends further revealed in a telephone chat.“Employment and frustration drove Odoh into this deadly venture. He’s been looking for a job several years after we left school,” hinted another of his mates on campus.
No doubt, the kidney-for-money business has become a booming market for the Nigerian youths, as one kidney goes for about seven to eight million naira. This mouth watering price is the attraction for those who travel to these countries- India, Bangladesh, Iran, China, etc- ultimately to deal in the illicit and very risky business.
Sunday Express investigations further uncovered that there is a sophisticated online network of vendors, agents, resellers and hunters, who actively seek young Nigerians ready to trade their kidneys, and other vital organs. One among such is www. kidneykidney.com.
“Crisis? Crisis is running over the planet, but you’ve got a chance! The cost of a human kidney is $70, 000-$80,000 and it could be enough to pay all your debts, credits and much more. You can help yourself right now: just sell your kidney. Hurry up!” That is one of the adverts on the website. “Link your friends and get 20% of friend’s kidney price. Only until July 1,” another one reads.
Apart from the online middlemen, there are so many other agents with offices situated in some cities in Nigeria, especially in Enugu, Asaba, Benin, and Lagos. They arrange and fly out candidates to these countries, mostly, India and Malaysia.
However, while some people successfully get themselves operated upon and get paid, others are not so fortunate as they die either before the surgery is completed or shortly after. Some, according to reports, end up suffering renal deficiencies in the long run.

Speaking on the health implication of the widely condemned act, a Neurologist, Ayodele kehinde, stated thus: “While it is very much possible for such individuals to live a normal and active life, such lifestyle is sometimes demanding in many aspects. Poor dietary and lifestyle habits can overwork a single kidney, causing diminished kidney function, leading to failure. So to live with a single kidney, one needs resources. Personally, I don’t really support such trade in organs. These organs are priceless possessions given to you by God, for free. So, why sell? It is better donated for free.”

Proffering a solution to this menace, a concerned Nigerian, Jimoh Obi, advises thus: “The Federal Government should ensure that Nigerian youths travelling to Malaysia, India and China are rigorously vetted to determine their mission in these Asian countries. There have been claims that some travel agencies woo youths into the kidney trade under the guise of schooling abroad. Every claim of admission into a Malaysian school should be properly verified; government should also double-check to see if the youths register at the schools or whether it is a ploy to jet out of the country to exchange their kidneys for 10 million Naira. They should also provide employment to our teeming youths are becoming more frustrated and desperate due to untold economic hardship.”
Obi continues: “I would also like to suggest a more drastic measure to check every Nigerian youth at the point of departure and return from the mentioned Asian countries to determine if someone with two kidneys is now ‘miraculously’ left with one kidney.
Government should take a step further. If upon discovering that any youth had sold his kidney, the travel agency that facilitated his travelling should be black-listed and those managing it jailed. The National Assembly should also come up with a legislation that makes it a crime to lure youths into the kidney business.”
According to reports, given the high incidences of chronic kidney diseases in some Asian countries, the trade is certainly a money-spinner. In Malaysia alone, it is said that there are about 2,500 cases of kidney failure yearly while in China about 1.5 million people are reportedly in dire need of organ transplants, thus fueling an illegal trade in organs.
Meanwhile, as you read this shocking confession from Kingsley Odoh, there are possibly more than 1000 other Nigerians currently making preparations to barter their kidneys for money. Ironically, the tales of those who have treaded the path and failed does not in any way deter prospective “kidney sellers” from embarking on the deadly voyage, all because of poverty caused by the frustration of unemployment among youths.

Lebanese man arrested for kidnapping in Lagos

A 23 year old Lebanese man has been arrested by police in Lagos for kidnapping his 61 year old aunt, Alhaja Essa Dannawi. Mohammed Dannawi (pictured above) conspired with a former employee of his aunt, Obi Kwentua, (pictured above) to kidnap the woman on May 2nd at her home in Ebute Meta, Lagos.

Mohammed, who later confessed to the crime, told police during interrogation that he didn't kidnap his aunt because of money but to punish her because she offended him and his wife. He said:

“My aunty did something very bad to my wife and I and so I decided to punish her. I met with Obi (Kwentua) and told him that I wanted my aunty kidnapped. I gave him the spare key to her house and he in turn hired some boys to do the work. On the day of the operation, I left the house and five guys stormed the place and took my aunty away. After the kidnapping, the kidnappers demanded N100m ransom from the woman's family but later agreed to collect N4m. It was during negotiations with the kidnappers that Mohammed confessed to being behind the kidnap and with his co-operation the police were able to arrest one of the suspects, Obi Kwentua when he came to collect the N4million ransom from relatives of the victim at Rita Lori Hotel in Surulere.

Essa Dannawi was later released while Mohammed and Kwentua were arrested.

A very big disaster was averted last Sunday, May 19th, when an SAA South African Airways Airbus A340-600, registration ZS-SNG performing flight SA-60 from Johannesburg (South Africa) to Lagos (Nigeria) conveying over 300 people developed an electrical fault in Mid-air. I got this info from someone on the flight and i am suprised that it's not in the news.

I heard about it yesterday when a work colleague of mine was narrating the entire story to me and another guy in his car. According to him, he was on the flight that faithful day..it was a night flight and he was listening to music from his Ipod when he perceived a foul burning odor, he thought the white man sitting next to him had farted but he knew it something more serious when he noticed people panicking.

He pulled his headphones and asked the white guy sitting next to him why people where panicking, all the white man was saying was ’’this plane is going to crash! This plane s going to crash!..all of a sudden thelighting system in the aircraft went off…everyone was mad with fear.. some started praying others brought out their blackberries and started pinging, some started calling loved ones and telling them their last wishes.

The captain then announced that the plane had developed an electrical fault and they were going to have an emergency landing. The pilot then turned the plane around and headed back to South africa, My colleague then revealed that it was then he saw 2face Idibia walk past him and when he looked back he saw the popstar talking and calming his crew down, telling them not to panic.

After 45 minutes, the captain announced that they were going to ‘dump the fuel’ i.e remove all the jetfuel on the plane, this is a precautionary step taken by pilots whenever a plane is going to crash or whenever there is a risk of fire. As they were about to land….another problem came up…the captain announced that the tires of the plane could not come out..by then everyone on the plane had given up.

Miraculously, the tires came out and the plane successfully landed and the passengers were evacuated. My colleague then said that himself and other passengers were taken to the arrival lounge, that was when he met Tony Anenih’s wife,Josephine, they talked and exchanged cards.

After much investigation, it was a kettle that sparked in the kitchen that affected the whole electrical system of the plane. According to my colleague a lot of Nigerians including senators constituted the bulk of passengers.

Man Catches Girlfriend Having Sex With His 16 Year Old Son

A man who set up a video camera to film ghosts in his home had the fright of his life - when he busted his live-in girlfriend having sèx with his 16-year-old son.

Footage he hoped would reveal signs of paranormal activity in his Tasmania, Australia, house instead showed his two loved ones kissing and then having intercourse.

He confronted his 28-year-old lover - who'd lived with him for 11 years and is the mother of his young child - but she played down the October 2012 incident.

However, his son confessed to having sèx with her three times in the preceding days.

And in the following weeks, it emerged they went on to have sèx several times in a hotel room.

The man called cops. Officers questioned his partner, who admitted to having sèx with the boy and knowing he was 16.

She claimed to think the age of consent was 16, when it is actually 17, and said she was "ashamed and embarrassed" by her conduct.

The woman, who cannot be named for legal reasons, pleaded guilty to underage sèx at the state's Supreme Court on Monday.

The Hobart Mercury reports she will be sentenced next week.

But for now, Tonto is so busy that she is not having much time for movie shoots. And the case with Mercy is that she just returned from abroad where she had gone to deliver her baby. For now she is taking her time off movie shoots.”!

Kolade Arowolo still insisting his 'murdered' wife killed herself

For those who saw the injuries on late banker, Titi Arowolo, you will all agree that it didn't look self-inflicted. But the man standing trial for her murder is still insisting she killed herself.

Kolade Arowolo was in court yesterday May 22nd and told the court that Titi actually attacked him with the knife and eventually turned the knife on herself. He said: "I'm not that kind of person. I loved her so much".

Explaining what happened on June 24th 2011, Kolade said he and his wife had sex on that day. He said they'd agreed to stay indoors throughout the day since it was his birthday, adding that he, however, went out to withdraw money which they would use in celebrating his birthday. Continue..

He said on returning home, an argument ensued, causing his wife to slap him. He said, “On June 24, 2011, after we had sex, we made some commitments one of which included that she (Titilayo) would no longer be running off to her parents’ home whenever we fought and we decided that we would do everything possible to make the marriage work. We decided that we would stay indoors till evening.
“I went out around 10am to withdraw money from the bank and I bought some items. On the way, I picked up my mechanic because he needed to repair my car. On getting home, about an hour later, the security guard and the mechanic helped me to take the items to my apartment and he (mechanic) drove the car away.

"On getting home, I realised my wife was completely dressed and she said she was going out. As I pleaded with her, she started shouting, saying that Aunty Toun (Stepmother) and Aunty Labisi told her to leave the house. She was very angry and she slapped me.”
Akolade said he ran to the house of his next door neighbour and told his neighbour’s mother, Mrs. Hannah Alaka, to intervene.
He said Mrs. Alaka called Titilayo and spoke to her by the corridor leading to the staircase and convinced her not to go out.

Akolade said he and his wife returned into their apartment and he proceeded to fuel the generator when he received a phone call from his sister-in-law, Folake Oyakhire.
He said he and Folake shared the same birthday.
Akolade said, “After speaking with Folake, she asked to speak with her sister so I started looking for my wife all over the place. I called out her name but she did not answer. On getting to the entrance to our room, I slipped and almost fell. As I attempted to hand over the phone to my wife, she stabbed me in the arm with a kitchen knife.
“She stabbed me again this time on the left side of my chest. I tried to wrest the knife from her and she started screaming, ‘I will kill you and kill myself.’ In the struggle, she stabbed me in the navel.
“Later. I asked my wife why she did this and she started apologising. I then decided to get help for her but I could not find the key to the main door to the house.”
Akolade said he scattered the wardrobe, where his wife said she had kept the keys but still could not find them.
He said, “After attempting to force open the door of the house with no success, I decided to jump from the balcony and I met the security guard and mechanic there. I jumped into my car and drove towards the Aswani Police Division.
“On my way to the station, I met some traffic policemen and I explained to them that my wife needed help. They were telling me to take care of myself first since I was covered in blood. While I was still explaining to them, an oncoming vehicle knocked me over and I fell unconscious.
"When I regained consciousness, I found myself in a strange environment and was told that it was a Good Samaritan that had rescued me. I later made a telephone call to my mother. It was the person who picked up the phone that told me that my wife was dead.”
While being cross-examined by the Director of Public Prosecutions, Mrs. Olabisi Ogungbesan, Akolade told the court that his wife was alive the last time he saw her.
He said he sustained more injuries than her and even debunked the report of the pathologist, Prof. John Obafunwa, who had asserted in his testimony that Titilayo was stabbed 76 times, saying it was not possible for a human being to inflict such wounds on oneself.
Ogungbesan, who debunked Akolade’s testimony, said, “Akolade, why did you not inform the mechanic, neighbours or even your security guard that your wife was bleeding instead of going to the police station? Why did you not use your mobile phone to call for help?
“If you did not stab your wife to death; then who did? You said your wife was mentally unstable, are you a certified psychiatrist? Since it has been established that you were the last person to see her alive I put it to you that you stabbed your wife to death.”

Akolade answered that his wife had taken alcohol that morning.
He said, “If you had seen her that day, she was even more powerful than me. She overpowered me. I was not thinking clearly that day. That was why I ran straight to the police station without telling neighbours. It was possible that she stabbed herself to death but it was not 76 times.”
Justice Lateefa Okunnu, adjourned the matter till September 17, 2013, for the final address of counsel. (Punch)I'm sorry but his explanation makes no sense to me. Besides, Titi's family confirmed back in 2011 that he frequently battered her.

Lil wayne signs Paris Hilton to his music label (YMCMB)

Lil Wayne confirmed yesterday that he has signed the 32-year-old heiress to his label, Young Money Entertainment. Paris will release new music this summer under the label.

Paris has been rolling with the Cash Money crew for a while now. She released a song with Wayne in December 2012 titled "Last Night," and also appeared in the Rich Gang's video for "Tapout," alongside Cash Money all-stars Lil Wayne, Birdman, Mack Maine and Nicki Minaj.

I am a lawyer who had a baby last year and I have been at home since. I decided to go back to work since my baby started walking and my husband suggested I stay and have all my kids, nurse them till they can all start school before going back to work. The problem with this is as a lawyer new laws, rules and codes keep coming up and I am scared I won't meet up after like five years at home. Also, my self esteem is slowly fading away. Please I want advice from the women. What do I do?
