BAYELSA TRAGEDY: Three Killed, As SUV Plunges Into River (PHOTO)

A Sport Utility Vehicle Wednesday [May 1] plunged into the Orashi river at Mbiama on the Rivers State end of the East-West road bordering Bayelsa in the Ahoada West local government area, killing three of its occupants.

A woman who reportedly survived the crash sustained serious injuries and was rushed to an undisclosed hospital.

It was learnt that the black Mercedes Benz G55 model SUV with four occupants was said to be on high speed and attempted to overtake a Mazda 626 salon car when disaster struck. The ill-fated car, Vanguard learnt, was heading to Port Harcourt when it plunged into the river at about 3pm. The victims were removed from the river by sympathizers and sand diggers.

However, three of the occupants reportedly died before help could reach them. The remains of the deceased were evacuated and deposited at the Shell Hospital morgue Port Harcourt just as the car was recovered.
