For the love of Gucci & Louis Vuitton: how do Lagos girls do it?

Lagos, the center of excellence as it is proudly called is always trendy when it comes to fashion. In Nigeria, Lagos is said to be the most fashionable state with the society constantly focusing on their wardrobe to keep up with the latest designer collection (wears, bags, shoes, wristwatches, phones, shirts etc.)

It’s Lagos that sets the pace for fashion in Nigeria and others follow suit. Lagos girls and their craze for designer goods… Gucci, Versace, Louis Vuitton, Chanel, Hermes, Jimmy Choo….just name it! This is what drives the state, the need to outdo the next person. Designer wears are used as a pass mark now to ascertain your financial level and status by some people.

Before some ladies relate with you or permit you to hang out with them, you must have one designer item or the other. This would allow you to be classified as a Lagos big girl.

Have you ever stopped and wondered how these young ladies maintain this lifestyle? You see a young school lady who still depends on her parents strutting proudly on the streets of Lagos with the Gucci’s and Louis Vuitton’s. How do they make their money or afford these luxurious items? Except those that are from wealthy families, ladies are known to do anything (Legal/Illegal)to get the designer goods.

The prominent Ibo boys have taken advantage of the situation by mass producing the fake of these designer goods. This is why you see Hermes as Hermez/Hemmes, Gucci as Gussi/Guci, Chanel asChannel/Sanel, Ray ban is now Ray boi.

It is good to look flashy in the best designer outfit, there is no crime in wanting to look good but there is time for everything. If you can’t afford the original, it’s best to opt for designs that are not known instead of parading in fake goods.

Satisfaction/Contentment is the watchword. Being satisfied with what you have would reduce the urge to covert things you can’t afford.Try living within your budget.

What do you think of the need to wear designers goods and the use of fake products by such people?
