NSCDC closes down 50 illegal security firms in Lagos

50 illegal Private Security Companies were shut down recently in Lagos alone, National Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) has said.

On Thursday, Commandant, NSCDC, Lagos State Command, Clement Adesuyi, says who was posted to Lagos about two months ago, said the command planned to seal off more companies that did not have licence to operate.

“We at the NSCDC are charged with the responsibility of licensing and regulating security outfits in the country. It is our constitutional duty,” he said.

“In regards to this, 50 PGC’s have been sealed in Lagos for operating illegally without being licensed. I can assure you that we will be working hard to expose more illegal companies like these and seal them off.”

“We are, however, being guided by our mission in doing this job; humility and integrity.”

“It is not in our nature to intimidate or harass anybody.”

“However, if situations like this do occur, the people should not hesitate to report to us. We would not tolerate intimidation by any staff.”

Director, State Security Service, Lagos State, Ben Olayi, said the SSS would start screening those employed by the PGC’s in order to know their background.

He said, “To boost security, private security outfits could send the list of those who they want to employ to the SSS. We would check their backgrounds for any criminal or questionable record and report any of such to them.

“This would enable them to employ the right people leading to an effective security system.”

Meanwhile, the Assistant Commandant General, NSCDC Zone A, Lugard Osawingie, urged security agencies to imbibe information gathering in tackling insecurity. He said safety was not all about carrying arms.

He said, “Security agencies should learn to imbibe information and intelligence gathering in fighting crime. We ought to have had adequate information before carrying arms and ammunition.

“Security is not all about arms. Without collaboration and synergy, we would not be able to fight crime.”
