Wow! Nigerian Boxers Shine In Cameroun

The Nigerian boxing team to the just concluded African women Boxing Championship won two gold and one bronze medal to emerge tops at the tournament.

Nigeria went with three boxers and three officials. The boxers are Kehinde Obareh (lightweight), Edith Ogoke Agu (middleweight) and Oluwatoyin Oladeji (flyweight) while the officials include Osondu Ogbu (leader of delegation), Tony konyegwachie (Coach) and the Secretary General of the Nigeria boxing Federation,NBF, Olushola Luke.

Kehinde Obareh who fought in the 69-75kg weight class started the victory song when she outpunched Lachghar from Morocco 3-0 in the final while Agu Edith stopped Camerounian boxer, Azangwe Aubige Yonnicke with another 3-0 win in the final of the 57kg- 60kg weight category to win the second gold for Nigeria. The only bronze medal was accounted for by Oluwatoyin Oladeji who lost in the semi-final of the 48kg -58kg weight class.

The leader of delegation, Ogbu, an executive board member of the Nigeria Boxing Federation gave Kudos to the three boxers for doing the country proud at the tournament as he commended the president of the NBF, General Kenneth Minimah who is also the Chief of Army Staff for sponsoring the team to the African championship.

A total of six countries participated in the championship. These include Botswana, Algeria, Morocco, Tunisia, Nigeria and host country Cameroun. Nigeria topped the medals table with two gold and one bronze. Morocco came second with one gold and one silver while Cameroun took the third with one silver and one bronze.
